Secrets
Secrets can weigh you down. They are exhausting, shameful, fear mongering, and anxiety provoking especially when they are kept from your awareness. Secrets can control every movement, every held breath, every glance behind you, every moment fighting against sleep to avoid nightmares and flashbacks (memories that cross time into the present). By now you know that I’m not talking about a surprise engagement party or a new puppy, right? I am NOT talking about that kind of secret.
And, I know you want to be free. Wouldn’t you like to experience the sense of safety and protection that you were denied? What about experiencing calm and confidence in yourself? I know you need rest that has been cleansed of nightmares. Finally, isn’t it time to be free of the shame that isn’t yours to begin with? I can help you with clinical hypnosis, with art, with writing, with my own unique ability to be present with you and share the burden. It gets lighter and easier to bear when the weight of the past can finally be shared. For more information about clinical hypnosis, click here.

Sleep
Getting consistently adequate and restorative sleep is the single most important thing that anyone can do for their mind and body. Good sleep provides energy, clarity, and improved functioning in all spheres: physical, mental, and emotional. Sleep hygiene is a critical component to attaining your sleep goals. The temperature in your room is important. Usually, we sleep better in cooler temperatures. A dark room is also usually helpful. This means, according to sleep medicine specialists, NO TV or CELLPHONE use! It’s also useful to use 3 mg of the highest quality Melatonin, but please check with your doctor before using any supplements.
For a lot of folks, attention to sleep hygiene as described above is enough to improve their sleep. However, if you suffer from nightmares or flashbacks, or some free-floating anxiety that keeps you awake, we may need to look at other sources of comfort that make relaxing into sleep feel safe and protected. Until we can meet and do some work, try a weighted blanket. The recommended weight of the blanket is 1 lb. of blanket for every 10 lbs. of body weight +1 pound. Look at this article on Sleep.org.
